The long night...

Gin, mint leaves and strawberries

So, it's Christmas tonight. That came wild and fine. Full house this year. Alex and i have been working on tonight's extravaganza, some freestyling involving gin soaked sponge cake, strawberries, mint leaves, mascarpone, yoghurt and sugar. Tomorrow we're having the day by Gene and Paula and it's going to be LEGENDARY. Paula has been cooking the whole day. Pavlova seen in the oven. And I'll have a Connie hug.
AWESOME!!!!!

Trust me I

Confidence in You
(I know Mum, I said I'll work...promise I'll write the darn thing this week)

Follow the blue fishes

What a week. Lots of km, through the Desert road, the valleys to finish on the very steep sided ridges in Wellington. Somehow, I didn't end up taking lots of pictures. Some, but not with my camera.
So.
I've got the very colourful door just down the youth hostel, where I was staying.
Really good time. It's difficult to convey. There was and Earthquake and groundwater session that was awesome. Some interesting water management. A really cool talk on catchment and overland flow.

Been out every night. There was a park nearby. With a skating ramp that looked like a very graphed/tagged empty swimming pool. Was very tempted to walk in, but Conny pointed I would probably not be able to come out. So out of Maksym (who is the tallest of the groundwater team), I did not. Mental note, next time, drag Maksym there. A light christmas tree. I did personally ring up Santa and made a wish. It came up green and blinked to the top.
That part of Wellington is dotted with sculpture and murals. So I quickly sussed out that to come home I had to walk on a trail of blue fishes. Been for diner with Matthias and Conny to that real cool mexican place with a concrete wall with squares empties out and filled with massive candles. Indirect light cutting out yellowish-white squares with mexican crosses on the wall. Made me think of that bar we used to go in Oxford. Large lanterns. Delicious food.
It was great to stay at the hostel. On a morning that I need some system-rebooting time and woke up too early for Conny (we shared a room), I nursed a strong coffee and watched all the youngsters checking each other, and getting reading for whatever outing they were up to. One by one donning their identical jackets. And blast my ears with PJ Harvey, amongst others, slumped on a comfy couch. Totally responsible adult-style.

Riptide

Reworked on Riptide last night, so you get re-edition. The balance have changed, the size, the black intensity. That's a 3-picture in one. I like the liquid heart.

Italian for beginners

Morning scene, breakfast, honeyed pancakes.
Mano- "Yesterday at prizegiving, some people were given crumpets. I mean "crumpetto", you say "crumpetto" in Italian."
Uh-uh. Trilingual he shall become. Buon giorno!

Homemade

Lola, you wondered what these brutalised T-shirts I mix up look like, here's one. Added and dyed the cuffs (originally baby pink) and surgically transferred the message from a kid's shirt (red).

Thursday eve

We passed the threshold of the house at 19h00. At 19h01, putting the book he had been holding on the trip from the library, Miniman steps out to go by Dayna.
I feel love.
Been told that the film I wanted to see with him, well you know. I may as well go on my own.
Ditto for the we to the seashore.
Ditto for the Avent calendar. I could open some of it myself.

So. I went raiding the teen section.
I got the Uglies trilogy from Westerfeld because Lisa recommended it. Looking forward to share some books with her.
And.
Janet.
Planet Janet - Dyan Sheldon.

Let me share the opening.
"Talk about self-centered! Me! Me! Me! Me! ME! That's all anybody in this house cares about. I was trying to have a normal conversation over supper (the way people do in films etc.), not some Great Intellectual Discussion (I know my family's limits, believe me), when I realized that no one was listening to me. I stopped dead right in the middle of explaining about what happened at lunch  (which was v dramatic and emotionally stressful), and no one so much as glanced my way. Sigmund (my male parent) was messing around with his electronic organizer as per usual, and the Mad Cow (my female parent) was staring at him with her eyes squashed up like she was trying to work out whether or not he was trying to blow us all up".

Janet, we do have an understanding.
Lets not have comment on this one right.
Awesome.

Hydrargyrum

It all went downhill when I volunteered to make breakfast before going to work on a Saturday for Master Shifu and The Dragon Warrior. You get fast training, your brain is being blown dry by the two master's thinking and you end up processing samples.
So I've been doing voltametry.
You're watching my waste bottle. Think back about those chemistry practical with saline bridges. Well, same as but using mercury as an electrode.
Since it's hazardous to breathe mercury fumes. We store the spent mercury (has oxides fixed on it, gives it a tarnished look) with water or samples.

On a totally separate subject, turned my hair blue.

Bath-time

Mano and I go for a wash. Mano uncap the strawberry-flavour all-in-3 gel. "smell like lollies".
Five seconds pass. Then he turns to me with very sparkling eyes.
"Now I got lolly-scented nits (nits=poux)."

a heartbeat goes by in silence.

"It'be cool if there was drool-flavoured shampoo" (drool=bave)

Noir I

OK, I'vefinally decided, this one will be my Sagrada Familia. I wont erase the pencil. Some slight changes here and there I need to do. This is only a fraction. It's an A0.
Thinking about variations. Something about mirrors.

The Stargazer

Meet the Stargazer. I know only of one existing in real life. He's got the name of an Archangel, but he ain't one. He doesn't give the Devil any credit. Got a scar on the lower lip, well deserved sucker-punch for his natural cheek.
Definitely Rooster - Drag the sunrise down (click on the link to listen)

Lola-lolita, here is my very first use of that phosphorescent ink (Sorry guys, the best existing sisters have been taken. All three of 'hem. All mine). So at night, the Southern Cross is watching over you. Realtime.

That feeliing

So. Stopped the experiment at 19h today, that was flash early. Master Shifu took us to dinner. Yes, The master Shifu from Kung-Fu panda. Well, now you know, I work with him.
I dream of centrifuges and boiling nitrogen.
And since I'm very focused.  I'm catching something on my sleep time, because 12h days aren't just enough.

Imagine a very very dense fog. There's definitely something in there with you. Every now and then some colour blur signalling some movement. When you get hold of something, it's never the total part of the thing.
And you have to drag the thing out of the fog before you know what or who it is. By concentrating on the details.  Nearly there.
That kind of mood.

Trip to Hamurana Springs

Took Conny with me.
Okay we met one bloke under 65, and he was carrying a dead rat.
Went shopping in Rotorua. From 15h30 onwards, you don't get to pick the shops you take what's open. Lesson learnt.
Found a shirt that says I'm not disorganised but artistic. Will save me a lot of explaining in the future.
Met two randomly placed pianos on the street. Don't ask me.
Both time there was that teenage girl who was obsessed to play "Someone like you" from Adele.
Definitely good sides from not being a teenage anymore.
Ended the tour by buying black undies from an underage kid.

As Jack says: Take what ye can, give nothing back!

Conny's all good vibes. So. All Saints - Pure Shores

Time to do something about it

Mano's been giving me words of wisdom again, so I think I'll make a section on the left-hand side. Eventually if it overflows, I'll make a page.
Today's adage:
"Y'a de la friture sur la lune" (there's fried stuff  over the Moon) to replace my default "y'a de la friture sur la ligne" when the please word gets forgotten. And I start saying I can't hear you. Must be statics on the line. Turns out statics in French is said with the same word we use for fried. Analogy of it sounds like you're frying things, too much background noise, can't hear you.

We gotta find somewhere to watch rugby tonight. Someone's singing about him and Cinderella and I have heard another song of the moment about "you're my Venus". I guess Percy and his mate have bright days ahead.
Started Dan Brown's lost symbol. And somebody just gave me an Idea.
Gotta catch that. Will keep you posted.

Ondine

Lisa Hannigan - Braille
I fill a glass with what you gathered
They wilt against the window pane
The morning sees you off with nets to scatter
You will come in with the tide again
We swim? without a word between us. Our breath held in.
We read enough in the rush of, Braille on our skin, on our skin
We swim without a word between us. Our breath held in
We? read enough in the rush of, Braille on our skin, on our skin Oh, oh, oh
For you, I leave my light on.
To do its best against the storm.
And you came with the tide in.
And I knew that we could keep each other warm.
You bring crocosmia and fuschias. And I sing your name into the night.
A king? of salt and stones, your compass, It swings from you to me tonight.
We swim without a word between us. Our breath held in.
We reel in love in the ocean, Braille on our skin, On? our skin....

Nightimer

From the corner of my eyes I see movement. We're Thursday, school tomorrow. I'm standing at the sink, doing the washing while Mano is supposedly getting into bed. Peripheral vision register a small body picking something up the pen-pencil-craft box. I soundlessly put down the dishes and creep in The bedroom. Mano's here, a paintbrush in one hand, the second on on the lamp post, ready to flick the light on and off. Aunty's Lola phosphorescent ink open. He's getting a moon and a star ready...

Calvin-time

Night is falling. On the kitchen table, the last remnants of a meal. Drip of long-molten ice cream. And old cookie pack.
The house is quiet. Darkness shrouds the room.
Then Mano extends his hand, his voice rasping...
"Ariiiiiiiiise from the Depths, Cookie."

Ils etaient tous a fond. J'ai lu un blog qui parlait de la "maree noire". Vi. Hate de les voir jouer encore.
